60 mil HDPE liner, also known as 1.5mm HDPE geomembrane liner, is the preferred product for heavy duty lining projects such as road or walkway construction. HDPE geomembrane liner is resistant to many different solvents and are the most widely used geomembrane liner in the world. The HDPE geomembrane liner, especially the 60 mil HDPE liner, provides higher tensile strength and can withstand higher temperatures, it also has exceptional chemical and ultraviolet resistance properties make it an extremely cost-effective product. The HDPE geomembrane liner is the ideal geotechnical material for road construction projects.

What is 60 Mil HDPE Liner?

The dimensions of the 60 mil HDPE liner are 1.5 mm, providing enhanced physical strength and lower permeability compared to the 40 mil HDPE liner. The increased thickness and strength contribute to improved weathering resistance, rendering it well-suited for exposed applications. The 60 Mil HDPE liner is very low permeability synthetic membrane liner or barrier used with any geotechnical engineering related material so as to control fluid (or gas) migration in a human-made project, structure, or system. The manufacturing of geomembrane HDPE liner begins with the production of the raw materials, which include the polymer resin, and various additives such as antioxidants, plasticizers, fillers, carbon black, and lubricants. These raw materials are then processed into sheets of various widths and thickness by extrusion, calendering, and/or spread coating. Three methods used to manufacture geomembranes. Issue

The Canadian customer’s sulfur formation facility is located 42 kilometers downstream from the local natural gas processing plant. Sulphur is a by-product of natural gas processing plants and is transported through buried and heated pipelines to Canadian customers’ sulphur facilities. When global demand for sulphur fell, oil and gas producers stored the sulphur in large sulphur blocks. When demand increases, sulfur is remelted and processed.

Sulphur storage at the Canadian customer’s plant is divided into East and West. The west area is then divided in the middle by a walkway and pouring towers between the two parts of the west area. Sulphur blocks are liable to their owners. Treating and neutralizing the acidic water flowing out of the sulfur block is costly; therefore, it is important to install containment systems that prevent runoff from contaminating the soil. A Canadian customer requested us for a solution that would allow personnel to safely cross the liner. Sidewalks or road must be designed to control runoff from the block, but also allow people to enter the sulphur pouring tower.

Solution

In Spring 2021, Canadian customers contacted with us. He wanted to purchase smooth HDPE liner for thr small road. In order to construct a 3-meter wide walkway between the two sections of the West End. After evaluating different alternatives, we recommended the use of a 60 mil HDPE liner. HDPE geomembrane liner has very good UV resistance and works well at low temperatures. It’s also strong and very stiff, which means it’s not prone to sudden longitudinal tears. Perhaps the most desirable property of HDPE liner, however, is its excellent resistance to a wide variety of chemicals. An inspection tunnel was constructed between the two sulphur blocks to provide access to the sulphur pouring tower. The scope of work included the installation of approximately 16,600 square meters of geomembrane liner over the degraded existing bitumen inspection channel. We supplied and installed 16,600 square meters of 60 mil HDPE liner and nonwoven geotextile to provide cushioning and prevent aggregate from pressing through the liner.

60 mil HDPE Geomembrane Installation Guide

Before laying the geomembrane, the bottom of the fish pond must be flattened. First, the bottom businesses must be compacted and flattened. Key points of geomembrane paving.  The adjacent seam of HDPE geomemrbane liner need to be welded. When welding, the joints should be neat, and the welds should be firm and flat without leakage. At the same time, other different parts of the geomembrane should be checked and whether there may be scratches caused by transportation, handling, etc., and cracks should be repaired in time.

Area requirements. Since the bottom of the fish pond may sink after water storage, and the bottom itself is not smooth enough, there must be space to lay geomembrane to avoid being too straight and flat.

Surrounding joint technology treatment. Since the geomembrane in the economic park is only laid at the bottom of the fish pond and does not cover our surrounding walls, the treatment of the joint between the wall bottom and the geomembrane is more important and critical. Excavate a foundation groove with a depth of 30cm × 30cm at the bottom of the enclosure wall, press the edge of the geomembrane into the foundation groove, pour reinforced concrete to level the foundation groove, and effectively prevent the leakage of the wall foundation.
