60 mil HDPE liner, also known as 1.5mm HDPE geomembrane liner, is the preferred product for heavy duty lining projects such as road or walkway construction. HDPE geomembrane liner is resistant to many different solvents and are the most widely used geomembrane liner in the world. The HDPE geomembrane liner, especially the 60 mil HDPE liner, provides higher tensile strength and can withstand higher temperatures, it also has exceptional chemical and ultraviolet resistance properties make it an extremely cost-effective product. The HDPE geomembrane liner is the ideal geotechnical material for road construction projects.
What is 60 Mil HDPE Liner?
The dimensions of the 60 mil HDPE liner are 1.5 mm, providing enhanced physical strength and lower permeability compared to the 40 mil HDPE liner. The increased thickness and strength contribute to improved weathering resistance, rendering it well-suited for exposed applications. The 60 Mil HDPE liner is very low permeability synthetic membrane liner or barrier used with any geotechnical engineering related material so as to control fluid (or gas) migration in a human-made project, structure, or system. The manufacturing of geomembrane HDPE liner begins with the production of the raw materials, which include the polymer resin, and various additives such as antioxidants, plasticizers, fillers, carbon black, and lubricants. These raw materials are then processed into sheets of various widths and thickness by extrusion, calendering, and/or spread coating. Three methods used to manufacture geomembranes. Issue
The Canadian customer’s sulfur facility lies downstream from a gas plant. Sulfur, a byproduct of gas processing, is piped to this facility. During low demand, sulfur is stored in solid blocks. During high demand, the sulfur is reprocessed. The storage area splits into East and West sections. A walkway and pouring towers separate the West section. To prevent soil contamination, containment systems are essential.
We provided a solution for safe crossing over the liner. This solution manages runoff effectively. It also ensures access to the pouring tower. Our design prioritizes environmental protection and operational efficiency. The system safeguards the facility while maintaining functionality. This approach addresses both contamination risks and accessibility needs.
Solution
In Spring 2021, a Canadian customer reached out to us. They needed a smooth HDPE liner for a small road. Specifically, they required a 3-meter-wide walkway in the West End. We recommended a 60 mil HDPE liner for the project. This liner offers excellent UV resistance and strength in low temperatures. HDPE liners also provide strong chemical resistance.
An access tunnel was constructed between two sulfur blocks. This tunnel ensured access to the pouring tower. The project spanned 16,600 square meters of liner. It was installed over an old bitumen channel. We added a geotextile layer for cushioning and protection. The installation process ensured durability and long-term performance. This solution met the customer’s needs effectively.

60 mil HDPE Geomembrane Installation Guide
Before laying the geomembrane, flatten the bottom of the fish pond. First, compact and level the base thoroughly. Ensure the pond bottom slopes toward the drainage outlet. The surface must remain mostly level without uneven areas. Remove all stones, tree stumps, and sharp objects. These can puncture or scratch the impermeable membrane.
This process helps prolong the geomembrane’s service life. The fish pond wall design does not require a geomembrane. The wall consists of reinforced concrete, ensuring structural strength. This approach ensures durability and functionality for the fish pond. Proper preparation safeguards the geomembrane and enhances its performance.
Key points of geomembrane paving
Weld the adjacent seams of the HDPE geomembrane liner carefully. Ensure the joints are neat and aligned properly. The welds must be firm, flat, and free of leaks. Simultaneously, inspect other parts of the geomembrane for damage. Check for scratches caused by transportation or handling. Repair any cracks or defects promptly to maintain integrity.
This process ensures the liner’s durability and effectiveness. Proper welding and inspection prevent potential issues. Timely repairs safeguard the geomembrane’s performance. These steps are crucial for long-term functionality.
Area requirements
Since the bottom of the fish pond may sink after water storage, and the bottom itself is not smooth enough, there must be space to lay geomembrane to avoid being too straight and flat.
Surrounding joint technology treatment
Since the geomembrane in the economic park is only laid at the bottom of the fish pond and does not cover our surrounding walls, the treatment of the joint between the wall bottom and the geomembrane is more important and critical. Excavate a foundation groove with a depth of 30cm × 30cm at the bottom of the enclosure wall, press the edge of the geomembrane into the foundation groove, pour reinforced concrete to level the foundation groove, and effectively prevent the leakage of the wall foundation.
